Biography:
Vigo the Carpathian is a fictional character, primarily known as the main antagonist of the 1989 film Ghostbusters II. He is a powerful and malevolent spirit trapped within a painting in the Manhattan Museum of Art.
Born Viggosat on an undetermined date and place, Vigo rose to power as a tyrannical ruler and sorcerer in the Carpathian Mountains. His historical epithets include "Vigo the Cruel," "Vigo the Torturer," "Vigo the Despised," and "Vigo the Unholy." He brutally ruled, leaving a legacy of fear and oppression.
Vigo's life was marked by violence and dark magic. He sought immortality and, according to legend, died poisoned, cursed, shot, stabbed, hanged, stretched, disemboweled, drawn and quartered. His spirit persisted after death, eventually manifesting within the painting. He aims to return to the physical world by possessing a newborn child, using the positive emotions generated around the Statue of Liberty to amplify his power.
Though vanquished in Ghostbusters II, Vigo the Carpathian remains a memorable and iconic movie villain due to his imposing presence, sinister nature, and the distinctive painting that houses his formidable spirit.
